Victoria came to reddit from working in the digital department for several years at ID PR (www.id-pr.com) where she was involved with the strategic social media marketing and overall digital public relations campaigns of ID’s talent, brands, and corporate clients. At reddit, she works hand-in-hand with community managers and the site’s general manager to help optimize communication with a wide variety of audiences who use the site from content creators, publishers, the media to end users and moderators who work on the site. Victoria graduated from Marquette in 2007 with a degree in public relations.
Augie Ray is Director of Global Voice of Customer Strategy for a Fortune 100 financial services firm. Previously, he covered social media as a Forrester analyst and ran social business and customer care for USAA. In the past year, Augie was found to be one of the 25 most retweeted by digital marketers and top 25 mentioned by mid-size marketers. Augie continues to blog at ExperienceTheBlog.com, and he’s happy to be back in his hometown for the PR + Social Media Summit.
Genevieve Grdina is an Associate Manager on the Corporate Communications team at Facebook, where she directly supports the Facebook Legal, HR, Diversity, Community Operations, IT and investor relations teams. She also runs the Facebook Communications Extern Program. Before joining Facebook she spent nearly four years working at Edelman Public Relations in New York City. She graduated from Marquette in 2009 with a degree in theater and public relations.
Phil Gomes’ career in the communications field is characterized by his passionate interest in technology, media, and emerging forms of communication. As an SVP with Edelman Digital, Phil challenges teams and companies to engage with online communities in ways that are compelling, persuasive, and parallel with “digital citizenship” expectations. These instincts for online community mores has also made Phil a consistent go-to resource at the firm for online crisis communications. Phil co-founded Corporate Representatives for Ethical Wikipedia Engagement (CREWE), a group of PR professionals and Wikipedians who seek to cooperate in the public interest of accurate articles about corporations and organizations. Phil earned a bachelor’s degree in communication from Saint Mary’s College of California and an MBA from Purdue University. He is a passionate user and advocate of open source software and methods.
Yumi Wilson is a corporate communications manager at LinkedIn and a professor of Journalism at San Francisco State University. As a trainer and evangelist for LinkedIn, Yumi trains corporate communicators and journalists how to use LinkedIn more effectively to promote their companies and brands. She previously ran the LinkedIn for Journalists group, which grew from 16,000 to 65,000+ members during her tenure. She also travels around the world, training communications specialists how to get the most from LinkedIn. She launched the LinkedIn for Corporate Communications group, whose members now include communicators from Pinterest, Yammer, Facebook, the Bank of the West, HP and many other Fortune 500 companies. A former Fulbright Scholar, AP newswoman and SF Chronicle reporter, Yumi was recently named one of the 12 Smartest Women of Color on Twitter.
Caity Strong is both a Senior Strategist & Advertising Manager at sōsh. Caity is bilingual (Spanish/English) and graduated with a degree in both Advertising & Spanish at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. As passionate about animals and the outdoors as she is about digital strategy, you can find Caity exploring Wisconsin with her husband Zach and dog Graym, any time of the year. Caity brings full-service large-scale agency experience and passionate creativity to the sōsh family.
Elle is the Communications Manager at Twin Cities Public Television, handling everything from traditional PR and social media to promotions, branding and events. Before joining TPT two years ago, Elle worked at various PR and marketing agencies throughout the Twin Cities doing publicity management for such brands as Duluth Trading Co., Leinenkugel’s Beer, Nutcase Helmets, Hollywood Fashion Secrets and more. She started her marketing career as a publicist for VEE Corporation – promoting the live touring productions of Sesame Street Live, etc. You could say that, in her current role with TPT, her career has come full circle. Once you go Elmo, you never go back.
Leif “The Viking” Brostrom, a Waukesha native, is a 2010 Marquette College of Communication graduate. When not at MUTV (or Sobelman’s), he studied Broadcasting and dabbled in French and Sociology — all while figuring out “how to internet” all over Johnston Hall. After moving to Minneapolis and running social media for Rhymesayers Entertainment (started by Hip Hop group Atmosphere) he jumped to Twin Cities Public Television a little over a year ago. Neither twitter, nor Downton Abbey will ever be the same.
Adam Snyder is the Director of Digital and Social Strategy for Burson-Marsteller. Over the course of his decade-long career in digital and social media, Adam has been part of multiple groundbreaking and award-winning projects for clients including IBM, Merck, Aetna, the NFL and Starwood Hotels. Before joining Burson-Marsteller, Adam oversaw the transformation of IBM’s mid-market business unit, managing the development of globally-focused digital and social programs to build long-term relationships and drive sales among IBM’s business-to-business clients. This included identifying ways to work across communications and marketing to create a fully-integrated experience that leveraged a mix of people and content. As part of this global roll-out, Adam developed and lead workshops in 20 regions around the world. Adam was key in educating Aetna’s senior management about new opportunities available to the company through interactive and social media. Adam holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from SUNY Oneonta, as well as several professional and post-graduate certificates from New York University. In his spare time, he works on his family’s organic farm, helping to sustainably raise a variety of animals.
Abi Gilman (formerly Naumann) knows the social media world like the back of her hand. Balancing all things Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram and blog for Bon-Ton department stores is her cup of tea. She first started working for the brand out of college as a community manager and grew to be Bon-Ton’s Senior Social Specialist and #LoveStyle blog editor. In her spare time she enjoys shamelessly Pinterest binging over ridiculously cheesy reality shows… don’t judge.
Caitlin Moyer is the Director of New Media for the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Club. In this role, Caitlin is responsible for general market digital advertising and social media strategy, creating online content that will bring fans closer to the organization. She is also the co-founder of the Club’s popular John and Cait…Plus 9 Blog. In addition to her role with the Brewers, Caitlin, a Marquette alumna, is also an adjunct professor in Marquette University’s Diederich College of Communication, and is active in the Milwaukee community through volunteer efforts, advisory committees and various business organizations.
